Morrison's Mission

Biblical Mission Statement
St. Matthew 28:18-20

This is the biblical authority given unto the church. We must obey this "Great Commission", above all things.

God's idea here is that the church would be powerful and have such an impact, (yes, you and me) that whole communities of people, whole races of people, whole nations of people would be affected by the discipling ministry of the church. He wants the church to affect not just individuals but the very structures that make up society and whole people together.

We have a King and a kingdom to proclaim with our mouths and our lives. Its more than singing in the choir, sitting in the pews, and standing in the pulpit. "You shall be my witnesses ", Jesus said (Acts 1:8).

In this "Great Commission", or biblical mission, our job is to produce disciples, not just members. A disciple is a person who is progressively bringing every area of life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Disciples are to illustrate clearly to a watching world how the king of the universe expects the world to operate by the way they apply the truth of God to the issues of everyday life. "Let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus" Philippians 2:5), and "But we have the mind of Christ" (I Corinthians 2: 16), are all ascribing achievements.

Spiritual Mission Statement

First Baptist Church Morrison is a community of believers; committed to serving the Lord worldwide; offering salvation, and making disciples, equipping them to expand the Kingdom of God (according to Ephesians 4:1 1-13) through the operation of the five-fold ministry.  Our purpose is to obey the Spirit of God as recorded in Isaiah 61:

  1. To preach good news to the poor
  2. To bind up the broken hearted
  3. To proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners
  4. To proclaim the Acceptable Year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God
  5. To comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve
  6. To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair

We believe that in His faithfulness He will reward us and make an everlasting covenant with us. All who see us will acknowledge that we are a people the Lord has blessed.
